When senior counselor Erin Falsetta was laid off, questions flew. Students wondered where she was and if she was coming back, and when she returned students and staff were ecstatic.
Falsetta is a well known guidance counselor who works with seniors in their class placement, college plans, and post life plans. When Falsetta was laid off she says she worried about the students a lot, being that she deals with all of the senior plans.

Walking into class the first day of school, most students expect to meet their new teacher. On their first day this year, dance students met a substitute teacher, who explained that a permanent teacher had not yet been hired.
Students who were expecting to continue their training with dance teacher Heather Vaughn-Southard were surprised that she was no longer at Everett.
“I was shocked and a little upset,” said senior Velnique Bowman.

Everett’s spring musical, “Dream Girls,” is loosely based on the story of the successful Motown Records act, Diana Ross and The Supremes. It showcases the drama and struggle they went through to reach their dream.
Many Everett students had high expectations for the opening night, Wednesday, March 16.
“I feel the cast will do good because of all the hard work they’ve put in the production,” said senior Clinton Warfield.

After the ground-breaking mounting of “Rent: School Edition” last year, the drama department is again preparing to stage another popular Broadway musical: “Dreamgirls.”
Thanks to a $10,700 Thoman Grant that theatre tech teacher Jim Allen pursued and won, the show will include four theatre professionals.
Allen said the road to receiving the grant wasn’t an easy one.
“I got the grant by crawling on my belly and begging for it,” said Allen.

Dance teacher Heather Southard returns to Everett.
“I missed the energy and spirit of Everett students,” Southard.
She said her favorite part of the job is finding a way to keep dance in student’s lives after high school.
Commitment, structure, and consistency are what it is going to take to get the program back on track and Southard has very high expectations and plans in store for the dance program.

As of today, texting while driving is illegal in 22 states and that number keeps growing. This new law was first proposed when texting and driving became an issue, for especially teen drivers.
“Driving and texting is really dangerous. I know some people who do it, and [I don’t like] what they do,” said Junior Tou Her.
According to http://www.goodhandscommunity.org/ Michigan now will enforce the law starting July 1, 2010, this law will ban text messaging and e-mailing while driving. The fines for the offence are expected to be $100 for first …
