On December 23rd, Everett band director Penny Filonczuk received an early Christmas gift: word that the Everett Marching Band had been accepted to participate in the 2017 Presidential Inauguration Welcome Concert. The band leaves Wednesday the 18th and on the 19th, will participate in a televised concert in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Everett is the only band chosen from Michigan to perform at the concert. They will be performing “Ex’s and Oh’s” by Elle King, “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire and “You’re A Grand Old Flag.”

In order to fund the trip without large expenses for the students, the band has to raise $36,000. The band’s story, and their call for financial help, has been featured on TV and in the Lansing State Journal. Over $12,000 in donations have already been made by businesses, families, teachers and students. They still have a sizeable amount to collect, but Filonczuk is confident they will reach their goal.

The band will have a chance for sightseeing on the 19th and the 20th. They will be visiting Ford Theater, Arlington National Cemetery, The National Archives building, the Smithsonian African American Museum and touring the National Monuments.

The band can use any help the community is willing to provide. Anyone who would like to donate to the Everett Marching Band can drop off money at Everett directed to the Everett Band Boosters. Donors can also easily help the band out online at http://tinyurl.com/EverettMB-Donate
