Everett’s school year is coming to a close and there are many different ceremonies coming up. Thursday, May 19 was Everett’s annual Senior Academic Award ceremony for students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. This is a chance for Everett to congratulate their students who have worked hard to maintain a high GPA throughout the school year.
“This is a great chance for the top academic students to be recognized and have something to show for their hard work,” said Juanita Kennedy.
Awards include the honor award certificates for the 3.5 GPA, president awards, academic letters or pin for earning a yearly GPA of 3.0 or above, and hope scholar cords.
“Getting a pin each year to show off my hard work makes me feel like I have accomplished something,” said senior Emily Denning.
Academic letters are for a student’s first year receiving an honor award. Second year pins are for a student’s second time receiving an honor award. Third year pins are for a student’s third time receiving an honor award. Fourth year pins are only for seniors who have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above their four years at Everett.
“[Senior awards means] being able to be around other students who have also tried hard to keep a high GPA,” said Alexa Muethel.
The ceremony will be held in the large auditorium at 2 p.m. (during 6th hour).
