Apple’s Latest Loop
March 21st Apple held their “Let Us Loop You In” event in California. They introduced us to a wide range of new possibilities that Apple is reaching to achieve.
Starting off the keynote with talking about encryption and data security, Apple claims to have asked Americans across the country to join in on a discussion on the matter. In this discussion, many people supported their stance on the FBI vs. Apple situation.
Next up on the keynote agenda was talking about how they could make wonderful products but also contribute to the earth. Apple now has over 93% of their global company run on renewable energy. That includes Apple Retail Stores, offices and the servers which houses some key features such as Siri and iMessage all run by either wind or solar or hydro power. In 23 countries including the United States and China they are run on 100% renewable energy.
Along with the renewable energy, Apple now ships its products with 99% of its paper either recycled or from a sustainably managed forest. They have partnered with funds across the globe to preserve many acres of forest for gathering and planting trees. Their goal is to move to all paper packaging because like solar and wind power, wood in Apple’s eyes is a renewable resource.
Continuing on the topic of green, Apple introduced a new machine designed to disassemble iPhones into pieces to be recycled. They call this disassembling machine Liam. An introductory video was shown which you can see here. They claim to build their iPhones to last but at some point they have to go. Now being offered is Apple reuse which takes your iPhone and strips it for parts such as the Silver from the motherboard being used in a solar panel. All they need is for people to turn in their dust collecting iPhones.
“I would support that. It helps build the energy with solar power,” said senior Deshila Vurse.
They hope to be able to recycle iPhone parts to make new iPhones but currently they are becoming pieces of other machines.
Apple continuing to care for Earth they turn their attention to health. With the introduction of the Apple Watch and their developer tools in recent history, it has allowed for medical professionals to conducts research projects to on a whole new scale. With many of Apple’s products health management could become elementary within the next decade.
Now on to new software. An iOS update was released which has over 50 new features and a Mac OS update which improves security and some features similar to iOS and a tvOS update that allows for folders and dictation with the Siri remote and lastly a WatchOS update which introduces better notifications and the ability to have multiple Apple Watches paired with a single iPhone.
“Seems more smooth and user friendly by making it easier for you to control your phone like the new night shift feature because it doesn’t strain your eyes,” said senior Jashaun Hill speaking about his iPhone software update.
Now on to new hardware. Apples Watches now have new woven nylon band that comes in 7 colors. iPhone SE which is an iPhone 6S crushed into the case of an iPhone 5 with minor differences such as older generation of Touch ID, screen viewing angle technology, 1.2 MP FaceTime camera and the lack of a barometer.
iPad Pro 9.7-inch which has more features than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro but has a lower powered chip. The camera has been upgraded to the same camera found in the iPhone 6S and now has a true tone flash, along with that it has a wide color display and a new feature that allows the iPad to adjust the ambient light to give you a realistic look as if you were looking at actual paper. Alongside the new iPad Pro comes a type case just like its larger version. Here is a quick video about the new iPad.
Once again Apple surprises us with information about projects they are working on that we had no idea about and releases new and powerful products with the world’s most advanced mobile operating system alongside them.
