RENT emotional, uplifting musical
On Wednesday, March 17, students from the Everett Performing Arts Department performed a Broadway musical, the school edition of Rent. This uplifting performance is based on a story of friends and their modern life in New York City, filled with obstacles and struggles they face in their everyday lives.
Senior Patrick Foster played Tom Collins, a center stage character who deals with his homosexuality while battling with AIDS.
“[Rent] is a story based on life battles in drugs, death, and in the end a falling moment of love,” said Foster.
In the musical, Roger David is a struggling musician, who constantly finds himself dealing with repressed memories from his past. This character was played by junior Michael Rose.
“It’s the external and internal conflicts that Roger and the group of friends face throughout the show that has everyone wanting more,” said Rose. “It’s uplifting with many morals to learn.”
Everett is the only high school in the Lansing School District to have the opportunity to showcase Rent.
“Rent is a great production, it’s cool to know that Everett had the chance to do a first-time musical,” said Rose. “I’m very glad I had the chance to be in it.”
