ABC: A new business class at Everett
When junior Andrew Fulger wanted to take an advanced accounting class, he noticed that there was no upper level class available next year. So he asked his business teacher Greg Clugston what the possibilities were for making his wish come true.
“I wanted an accounting class that was harder,” said junior Andrew Fulger. “Basically I want to experience real world interactions.”
After considering Fulger’s request, Clugston consulted with administration. Recently he was given the green light on putting his plans into action. Next fall, the new advanced business class, Accounting Business Club (ABC), will begin. Topics scheduled to be taught in this class include Accounting, Business, and Entrepreneurship. It emphasizes on accounting and insurance. They will also help the yearbook sell ads.
“It would be more than just an accounting class,” said Clugston.
Clugston added that anyone that is interested in an advanced accounting class should consider joining this club. He said that many students might consider joining just to try something new that will help their career.
“I wanted to join this class because my career is focused on accounting, and this is a good way to get started on my career,” said junior Bria Smith. “Plus I love the accounting class now and I’m really looking forward to the accounting experience, helping out in the community and the knowledge.”
Other people have decided to sign up for the class just by the description.
“I decided to join because it seemed cool,” said junior Miguel Wilson.
The ABC club will begin in the 2010-2011 academic year. The main concentration is on Accounting, Business, and Entrepreneurship. According to Clugston, the class will emphasize accounting . This class will provide students with job shadowing experience and expand the co-op work experience at Everett. Like accounting class it will give a senior math credit as well as three LCC college credits.
Also, students in this class will do fundraisers, provide community service and improve school spirit. The community the ABC club will provide is working at a food bank, providing meals on wheels, toys for tots and also help out Everett High schools National Honors Society (NHS). It will hopefully be meaningful for the students and community business leaders to improve the school spirit. They will also have guest business speakers and connect with LCC by working in their labs.
The class is for eligible seniors or juniors. It’s really a senior math option, basically for those who want to try something new, and helping seniors prepare for college.
